The Benefits of Home Plus Assisted Living

Senior living in Wichita Kansas, Comfort and Love Senior Care Homes

Well operated senior care homes are changing the landscape of senior living forever. There is no denying that large senior living communities play a vital role in senior healthcare, however, large-scale institutional living arrangements are not ideal for everyone, which is where Comfort and Love’s retirement home in Wichita serves an essential purpose.

Moving an aging loved one out of their home and into a large facility can often be an overwhelming and a challenging adjustment. Home-style care homes, also known as Home-Plus in the State of Kansas, provide a more intimate and familiar setting, ultimately allowing for a much smoother and happier transition. Many seniors appreciate and prefer a well-acquainted environment and being amongst fewer residents and staff. Rather than navigating long hallways, cafeterias, new living quarters, and potentially hundreds of other residents, they are in a home-like setting like they are used to and more comfortable with.

Another advantage of Comfort and Love’s residential assisted living home in Wichita is the caregiver-to-resident ratio. Whereas larger senior living communities might offer a 15:1 care ratio or more during the day, we provide a 6:1 care ratio. This allows for much more personalized care for your elderly loved one and the ability for our caregivers to know each resident’s needs more intimately

What Makes Comfort and Love... Special!

As Wichita’s premier Assisted Living and Memory Care Home, Comfort and Love is a cut above for numerous noteworthy reasons. Our team is composed of experienced and expertly trained caregivers adept at dealing with all forms of memory loss, such as Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Our Wichita retirement home is monitored by the CarePredict System, which has proven to significantly decrease fall rates and reduce wandering risks, amongst other benefits. We utilize a state-of-the-art air purification system from PuriFiLabs, recognized as a world leader in air purification, providing the cleanest and safest air environment available in Wichita. As mentioned above, we have the best caregiver-to-resident ratio at 6:1 during the day, allowing for more personalized care. Additionally, we provide our residents with a range of fun and engaging recreational activities of their choosing. Finally, and perhaps best, are our chef-prepared home-cooked meals, always a treat and something to look forward to each day.

When Is It Time For Residential Assisted Living?

Deciding that an aging loved one can no longer live independently and requires relocation to assisted living is never an easy choice. More than likely, your aging relative has lived in the same home for years, perhaps most of their adult life, and even raised children and grandchildren in their home. Not only do they have sentimental value for their home, but they fear what the future holds upon relocation.

So, how do you know when it’s time to relocate an elderly loved one into an assisted living home? For starters, have they fallen and recently gone to the emergency room and/or a skilled nursing rehabilitation? According to the CDC, about 36 million falls are reported each year among the elderly, resulting in 32,000 deaths. Furthermore, approximately 12.5% of seniors who fell once will fall again within the next three months. Perhaps your elderly loved one walked away with a broken bone this time, but they might not be so lucky next time. More direct supervision can clearly benefit them in this situation.

Another thing you should watch for is their ability to perform activities of daily living. If your aging loved one has difficulty doing household chores, taking medicine properly, grooming, feeding, toileting, etc., then it’s time to consider assisted living. Home care is always an option. However, 24/7 home care services can get expensive, and the rotation of unfamiliar caregivers can strain your elderly loved one. This also typically leaves them unsupervised during the evening and overnight hours when many things can happen to them.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is the question of memory loss. Age-related memory loss is common among senior citizens, especially individuals over 75 years old. Memory loss can lead to fatal accidents like medication overdoses, forgetting to turn off the stove, and wandering out of the house during freezing temperatures. If your elderly loved one is experiencing some form of memory loss or cognitive impairment, assisted living is the safest care possible.
